THEME : Mariage – Lə́ndʉ̄ᾱ – Mariage

1. Ǒ ngʉ́ ngǔ' mūntāā, nját mbeé mbᾱ' ē, ngʉ́ kά ? Ntiě’ ku’ lah ncwēh yo tə̌ndʉ̄ᾱ.

• Tu as trente ans, pourquoi habites-tu chez tes parents ? il est temps de créer ta famille.
• You are 30 years old, why are you living in your parent’s house? It is time to build your family.

2. Mōō mbá' nshwī, nkwāt pe' nī, ndə̄ yi munzhwiē, mα ǎ kǔ' wenok.

• A young man grows, builds his house, marries a wife, then, he is an adult!
• Un jeune homme grandit, construit sa maison, épouse une femme ; alors il a atteint l’âge adulte.

3. Tīēncə̄  mʉncāk mbʉ́ά lə̄ ngoo baá, a sǐ mʉmbēn ī bᾱ; mbα tα fa'á, a yǎt sǐ’ njǎm ī ; pó ingén shwị nzhindʉᾱ mbᾱ’ ngoo.

• Tientcheu souhaite épouser cette fille ; elle ne veut pas de lui ; malgré cela, il insiste et ira transmettre sa requête aux parents.
• Tientcheu wish to marry this girl and she doesn’t want him; he does not give up and will speak to her parents.

4. Ǒ zhií? Kwa’nu te'si ā lə́ndʉ̄ᾱ; N kα' kwé' ī mbα nehē. Léndʉ̄ᾱ si nkwe'ni sí' nnák bᾱ.O kάlᾱ’ pōk ndū.

• Le sais-tu? Kwa’nu m’a demandé ma main ; je ne l’aime pas ; le mariage sans amour ne réussit pas. Réfléchit bien, tu finiras par manquer de mari.
• Listen! Kwa’nu said he wants to marry me; I don’t love him at all; marriage without love has no chance to be a success. Think about it; at last you may miss a husband.

5. Pō sī yát nkwāt mēngoo, nhᾱ lə́ndʉ̄ᾱ bᾱ. Mēngoo bα̌ ncāk yi ndū. Wen sǐ' ndə̄ mēnmᾱ a bᾱ.

• On ne marrie plus les filles de force ; chacune se cherche un mari. On n’épouse pas son frère (sa sœur)
• There is no longer marriage by force for girls; she is free to choose her husband.A Marriage between brother and sister is not admitted.

6. Sisilia kαlǎh sēn i nsά' lα'si yōh. Yáá ntō' si' fa'á. Mbᾱ’ som lά ghʉ̌ nkᾱᾱ. Lə́ndʉ́ά nkwe'ni nken lə́ndʉ́ά nkᾱᾱ ?

• Cecile est venue me presenter son ami. C’est ainsi que cela commence. Le père du garçon est riche. Mariage d’amour ou mariage d’argent ?

• Law, doesn’t permit to marry a girl under 16 years old. In the past, marriage commitment was taken while waiting for her to grow up.

• L’ainé de M. Ngounou l’a envoyé toquer la porte de soh Nkwemo, pour sa fille Monique. Le garçon et la fille sont aux études chez les Blancs. En poursuivant deux lièvres laquelle vont-ils attraper ?

10. Sisilia lαtǒm lə́ndʉ̄ᾱ, ngén nsī mbeé pα-mbᾱ' ā. Mbᾱ’ Sisilia lαlά'ca’ yāā , ndū i hᾱ mvǐ tᾱ nzhwīē i pātnjam.

• Cécile a quitté son ménage pour aller habiter chez ses parents. Son père a jugé la dispute entre elle et son mari , le mari a été condamné à donner une chèvre au père pour que sa femme revienne.
• Cecilia abandoned her husband to return to her father’s home. Her father settled the dispute, the husband was sentenced to give a goat for his wife to return home.

11. Nά ntʉ́άngwe' yōh, wěn ndə̄ ngoo mα ǎ lə̄ nkwe těndʉ̄ᾱ; nkwe pʉ̌ nά báa těndʉ̄ᾱ bᾱ nsǐ zǐ. Pó mbīᾱᾱ mά á kōsō yάά nά nkwe yᾱᾱ nu.

• Selon nos traditions, lorsque tu épouses  une femme, tu épouses tous les membres de sa famille ; à ce titre, tous attendent que tu les assistes dans toutes leurs difficultés.
• In our tradition, when you marry a girl, you marry his entire family. Every member of this family expects your help whenever he has problems.
• 12. Mbᾱ' Monkam lαlí' lə̌ mēn i munzhwiē, ncēh pʉ nkhʉ tāā, pō cā'si, nzᾱ, nnū, nzēn tα nzα̌ lēē.

  Pour le marriage de sa fille, Mr Monkam a reçu 300 invités de marque ; il y avait de la joie, on a mangé, bu et dansé jusqu’au matin.

• For his daughter wedding, Mr Monkam received 300 high ranking invitees; there was enjoyment, good food and drinks, and dancing all night.

• Le mariage se traite d’abord dans les familles; puis on va devant le Maire pour dire « oui » ; on finit devant Dieu à l’église pour les croyants.
• Marriage arrangement starts in the families ; followed by the ceremony of consent at the Mayor office; and lastly the blessing by God at church, for the believers.

14. Yōh pú o , tα ndᾱ’kūᾱ, nά nkǒ’ pí pīē.

• Unis pour la vie jusqu’à la mort, pour le meilleur et le pire.

  Together for life ; whatever happens, bad or good.
