Mbʉ́ά lah ngóʼ mvīātnī
Wen ndāmα̌ bα̌ ntám těndʉ́ά lά nkōp ngə̄, náh ncāk ngaʼkaʼ yi mvīātnī sīē mbēn pō ī lά. Quand et pourquoi organise-t-on le rite de mviatni ?
Quand deux personnes se disputent au point de se quitter de ne plus se voir, ou quant il est question de mort d’homme, ou dans une affaire de vampirisme, tout cela peut conduire à des différends qui divisent les familles. Pour se reconcilier, on engage la procédure du mviatni.
La famille se réunit, elle pointe le participant accusé d’un crime et le met à la porte. Après cela, pour mettre fin à ce méfait, on procède à la procédure du mviatni , une manière de fumer le calumet de la paix, avant de réintégrer le concerné au sein de la famille.
Dans le passé, on vendait des gens comme esclaves. Supposez qu’un des vôtres soit amené comme esclave vers un pays lointain, et alors que que vou êtes convaincu de sa disparition définitive, par la grace à Dieu, vous le revoyez un jour; vous organiserez la cérémonie du mviatni, (avant de renouer des relations fraternelles avec lui.
Suppose que tu apprennes que ton frère est décédé dans une contrée lointaine, et que tu ne peux t’y rendre, toute ta famille ffera son deuil. Suppose que, plutard, tu le revois et te rends compte que l’annonce de sa mort était fausse; vous allez ensemble organiser le mviatni, en vue de le réintégrer dans la famille.
Mise en oeuvre du mviatni.
Le Chef de la famille concernée utilise la technique de voyance par consultation de la mygale, pour chercher un guérisseur-voyant, apte à conduire avec succès l’opération. Il en fixe la date, puis, convoque les enfants de sa souche (descendants en ligne directe de la concession), ceux ayant pour mère ou grand-mère des descendants de la concession.. Tout le monde se retrouve le jour convenu.
Le rite consistera préparer et consommer le mviatni: ses éléments constitutifs à écraser sont: ndʉndām (jujube), mbʉ̄ (kaolin), nduᾱni (herbe des jumeaux), cíciāni (sorte d’herbe de paix) et laʼ (sorte de plante ressemblant au feuilles du nénuphar); (Il s’agit en général des éléments considérés comme facteurs de paix). Le guerisseur tient le la’ par un bout, le chef de famille par l’autre; il le tranche et le pose sur la pierre à écraser. Il (guérisseur) désigne un membre de la famille et pose sa main sur la pierre. Ce dernier écrase les éléments du mviatni. Pendant ce temps le guérisseur prononce des paroles rituelles, disant: “Que tout le maléfice qui plane sur cette famille et ses membres, cesse ce jour et à jamais”.
On obtient après écrasement une pâte compacte : le mviatni. Le guérisseur et le chef de famille croisent leurs mains, y déposent le mviatni et le lèchent. Chaque participant donne une contribution financière symbolique; croise les mains sur lesquelles on y dépose sa part de mviatni qu’il lèche. Le chef de famille emballe et conserve le reste; il envoie la part des absents qui doivent verser leur contribution avant de consommer. Il prend sur lui la responsabilité d’envoyer la part des membres éloignés, même si cela peut prendre un an.
L’argent recolté sert à rémunérer le guérisseur.

Why and when is the “mviatni” ceremony organized ?
In a family, when two people are in dispute as to no longer attend , when a case involves a human death, or when a case of vampirism divides a family, in order to reconcile those who are involved, the ritual of mviatni is undertaken.
The affected family gathers, points the participant accused in the matter and expels him. Then, to stop the malediction, and restore peace within the family, one proceeds with the procedure of mviatni , before the accused person is allowed to join the family.
In the past, people were sold as slaves. Suppose a person of yours is sold into slavery and brought to a distant country , and that you are convinced of his final disappearance ; Suppose that one day , by the grace of God , he reappears , you will organize the rite of mviatni , before resuming normal relations with him.

Suppose you find out your brother died in a remote area , and you cannot get there, bringing your whole family to mourn him . If you meet him later, because the announcement of his death was false , you will organize the whole mviatni , to reinstate him in the family.
Course of mviatni ritual.
The head of the family concerned consults the tarantula , tool of clairvoyance, to look for a healer , able to successfully conduct the operation. Then in consultation with him, he sets the date for the ceremony. That done, he summons the direct descendants of the family, and all those whose mothers or grandmothers are also descendants.
The ingredients to be crushed for the mviatni paste are: ndʉndām (jujube) , mbʉ̄ (kaolin) , nduᾱni (twins grass) , cíciāni(a kind of peace grass) and la’ (plant leaf like water lily ). These are mostly materials considered as peace factors. The healer holds the « la’ » at one end, the family head by the other; the later cuts the “la’” on the edge and puts it on the stone. He(healer) elects one member of the family and puts his hand on the crushing stone. While this person grinds the elements of mviatni , the healer pronounces this ritual phrase : » Let all the curse that hovers over this family and its members, cease today and forever » .
A compact paste is obtained following the crash . The healer and the family head cross their hands , to receive and lick the mviatni paste. Before receiving in his hands and licking the mviatni, each participant gives a symbolic financial contribution. The head of family packs and keeps the rest; he also sends the share of absentees who have to pay their contributions in a reasonable time, before consuming it.
The money raised is used to pay the healer.
